Explore the local area

If you fancy spending a bit of time in the local area there are plenty of places to go and see. If you fancy a nice walk, we can recommend a trip to St Martha’s Hill with it’s lovely view and cute church. Polesden Lacey is a beautiful National Trust property with a house and gardens that is definitely worth a visit. As is Wisley House and Gardens.

Don’t forget Guildford Castle, with its Great Tower for a 360° degree panoramic view of Guildford and the beautiful surrounding countryside. Newlands Corner and Silent Pool is a nice walk with some lovely views as well. Dapdune Wharf offers some history near the river Wey.

Places to shop and eat

There are some really good eateries in town, including Jamie’s Italian, Yo Sushi and a Wagamama. Guildford High Street has plenty of shops, pubs, restaurants and coffee houses to sample.

Should you chose to into town on Saturday morning and wanted to have lunch in town, here are some suggestions:

The Tea Terrace in House of Frazer, The Electric Theatre near the river Wey, The Glutton & Glee for delicious coffee.

For those who choose to go for a walk in the country side and perhaps to St Martha’s Hill on the North Down’s Way, there is a lovely pub for lunch (or dinner), The Percy Arms.

Places to let off some steam

If you fancy doing something a little extravagant, we’d recommend Stoke Park. It has crazy golf course, boating lake and tennis courts. More recently WildWood has opened in Stoke Park, which looks like fun for those with a head for heights. Also new in Guildford is AirHop, where you can let off steam by jumping high on trampolines. Advance booking is recommended. The famous Guildford Lido offers up some outdoor swimming and a children’s play pool, it’ll be hot enough in August. If it isn’t, there’s always the Guildford Spectrum, an indoor pool with slides, ice skating and ten pin bowling. If you have kids to entertain, there’s lots more useful info on the day out with kids website.
